Flying Squid is an ultra-dwarf Elephant Ear variety of the Alocasia family that is hardy to zones 9 and warmer. This plant grows to the height of 12” and produces tubular stems that incredibly end as pointed leaves! This amazing oddity prefers partial sun and is not a fan of standing water. Other than that, this plant is not fussy at all.

ALOCASIA CARE
Alocasia comes in many sizes, shapes, and colors. They prefer a moist, well draining soil in bright, indirect light. I plant my Alocasia varieties in a general growers mix with about 20% added perlite, both of which can be found at most greenhouses or garden centers. As direct sunlight can burn most alocasia's leaves, they prefer to stay in an area with bright, but not indirect light, though some varieties do grow well in full sun. These plants produce pups via runners that grow up around the base of the mother plant, and can be separated once they have their own set of leaves. Pot these plants up a pot size before they are completely root bound.
